When Comfort Becomes Cowardice

This is something I continually examine in my own life, even when I fall short.

Passivity in men becomes a problem when it turns into avoidance and indecision. It becomes an issue when it results in a lack of leadership and a failure to take responsibility.

This kind of passivity weakens relationships.

It erodes trust.

It contradicts the biblical call to diligence and courage.

There is, however, a healthy form of passivity.

It takes the shape of restraint and humility.

It is a willingness to wait on God rather than act out of pride or impulse.

This balance is not easy to maintain, and it is not meant to be.

It requires intention.

When ordered rightly, this posture produces wisdom and self control.

It allows obedience to God’s timing.

Through prayer, self reflection, and fellowship, I examine my own tendencies honestly.

Am I exercising restraint or avoiding responsibility?

In this situation, am I being intentional?

Am I reflecting the character of Christ?

What would He be doing here?

The end goal is always the same: courage when action is required and patience when waiting is right.

Proverbs 6:6–11

Go to the ant, you sluggard!

Consider her ways and be wise,

Which, having no captain,

Overseer or ruler,

Provides her supplies in the summer,

And gathers her food in the harvest.

How long will you slumber, O sluggard?

When will you rise from your sleep?

A little sleep, a little slumber,

A little folding of the hands to sleep—

So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,

And your need like an armed man.

1 Corinthians 16:13

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

James 1:19–20

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Proverbs 16:32

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,

And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. Ephesians 5:25

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.
